What is AVIF? Is it better than WebP?
AVIF is an image format based on AV1 video encoding and is the most advanced image format as of 2026. At equivalent quality, it is 20%-30% smaller than WebP and over 50% smaller than JPG. It is supported by Chrome 85+ and Safari 16+. The downside is slower encoding speed and lack of support in older browsers.
Does converting PNG to JPG lose transparency?
Yes. JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas in a PNG will become white (or another specified background color) when converted to JPG. If you need transparency, convert to WebP or keep PNG—do not use JPG.
Does conversion reduce image quality?
It depends on the target format and quality parameter. JPG/WebP/AVIF are lossy formats—lower quality means smaller file size but worse image quality. Around 80%-90% is the sweet spot. PNG is lossless, preserving quality but with larger file sizes.
Are images uploaded?
